|Inspiration:||The Animals of Phish
This week my wife, Wendi, decided to redo the artwork in our living room. She took down some of the old artwork and replaced them with new pieces in fresh frames. Our walls are now home to works from some of our favorite artists and friends; Jim Pollock, Shepard Fairy, Branden Otto, Scott Avett, and most importantly Blake and Wyatt Bojanowski (our sons). Included in the art were a few collage/drawing pieces I didn’t recognize. It turns out they were created by my wife. I was immediately inspired to use her style to create my next series of art.
Some of Phish’s greatest songs include stories or references to animals. Like the band itself, the animals of the songs are not ordinary. The songs include many unique animals like; Ocelot, Antelope, Llama, Sloth, Pig (Guyute), Possum, Snake (Squirming Coil), Wombat, Monkey, Lizards, Cat (Poster Nutbag), Mockingbird, Weasel, Humpback Whale, Ewe, Camel, Mule, Newt, Vultures, Dogs, a Worm and more…
This week’s artwork is a series of animals called “See the Zoo”. The title comes from Phish’s song “Slave to the Traffic Light”. The collage pieces were simply/quickly drawn into my sketchbook and then cut and mounted onto colorful 5″x7″ papers. The animals found in this series include a Pig, Llama, Snake, Sloth, Antelope, Lizard, Wombat, Possum, and a Camel.

Have a great week!
